What Is OpenClaw? The Personal AI Assistant Miami Businesses Are Installing
OpenClaw is an open-source personal AI assistant that runs on a Mac Mini in your office. You text it from Telegram, WhatsApp, or iMessage, and it handles your inbox, calendar, invoices, and follow-ups 24/7. No monthly SaaS fee. No cloud. It was originally released in November 2025 as ClawdBot before Anthropic forced a rename in early 2026.
Why Is It Called OpenClaw?
The project launched as ClawdBot. Anthropic, which makes Claude, sent a trademark request because the name was too close to their brand. The maintainers renamed it MoltBot for a few weeks, then settled on OpenClaw in January 2026. Every version is the same software with the same features. If you search for "ClawdBot installation," "MoltBot setup," or "OpenClaw installer," you are looking for the same product.
We still install legacy ClawdBot builds for clients who started on the original version. New installs ship with OpenClaw.
What Does OpenClaw Actually Do?
The short version: it does the boring work of running your business while you handle the parts that require you. The Miami installs we have completed over the last 90 days handle these tasks every day:
- Inbox triage. Reads every email as it arrives, drafts a reply in your voice, flags anything that needs your attention.
- Invoicing. Pulls billable time or services from your CRM, drafts the invoice, texts it to the client for approval, chases payment.
- Outbound campaigns. Writes and sends cold email or SMS sequences. Qualifies the replies. Books the hot ones onto your calendar.
- Appointment management. Negotiates times over text. Sends confirmations and reminders. Handles reschedules.
- Review requests. Sends personalized Google review requests at the right time after each appointment. Replies to every Google and Yelp review automatically.
- Patient or client intake. Runs the intake form via text. Drafts the summary. Flags compliance-sensitive items for human review.
- Daily numbers summary. 6am Telegram message with yesterday's revenue, today's appointments, pipeline value, missed calls.
Why Does It Run on a Mac Mini?
Three reasons. First, a Mac Mini M4 costs $599 new from Apple. You own it outright. Compare that to ChatGPT Enterprise at $60 per seat per month, or a cloud legal AI at $500 to $1,500 per month, and the math works out in 6 to 10 months.
Second, your data never leaves your office. OpenClaw runs fully local if you pair it with a local model like Llama or Qwen. Law firms, medical offices, and financial advisors we have installed for specifically asked for local-only because of ABA Rule 1.6, HIPAA, and FINRA requirements.
Third, the Mac Mini is quiet and energy efficient enough to sit in a back office running 24/7. One of the Miami Beach salons we installed for put it on a shelf under their reception desk. Nobody notices it is there.
What Makes OpenClaw Different From ChatGPT?
ChatGPT is a conversation tool. You open a browser, ask a question, copy the answer, paste it somewhere. OpenClaw is a worker. It reads your emails without you opening them. It sends invoices without you logging into QuickBooks. It reminds your clients about appointments without you remembering.
ChatGPT waits for you to start the conversation. OpenClaw does the work while you are asleep.
There is room for both in a business. Many of our Miami clients use ChatGPT for quick research and OpenClaw for automation that runs on its own. We install either or both depending on what the business actually needs.
Why Do Businesses Pay Someone to Install It?
OpenClaw is free to download. The install is not the hard part. What takes time is choosing the right hardware, picking models that fit your use case, building custom skills for your workflow, wiring up a messaging gateway, and supporting the system after launch.
A typical Miami install takes 1 to 2 weeks. We handle:
- Hardware selection and setup (Mac Mini M4 in most cases)
- Model configuration (Claude, GPT, or local LLMs depending on compliance needs)
- Telegram, WhatsApp, or iMessage gateway
- 3 to 10 custom business skills built specifically for your workflow
- Custom CLAUDE.md file that teaches OpenClaw how your business works
- 30 days of white-glove support after launch
Who Should Install OpenClaw?
Almost every small and mid-size business has use cases. The installs we have completed cover HVAC, med spa, real estate, nail salon, insurance, e-commerce, dental, restaurant, roofing, and law firm clients. If your business has inbound messages, outbound follow-ups, invoices, or customer communication, OpenClaw fits.
The ones who get the biggest lift are solo operators and small teams where one person is wearing too many hats. OpenClaw takes the administrative weight off so they can focus on revenue-generating work.
